The punkalasa (Sinhala: පුන්කලස) is a wide-mouthed ceremonial brass vessel used across Sri Lankan altars, ceremonies and gifting. This one is 100% handcrafted locally in premium brass (pitthala) and finished by hand, so each piece carries a slightly individual polish.

Specifications

  • Material: Premium brass (පිත්තල)
  • Dimensions: 24 cm × 12 cm
  • Finish: Polished antique or golden
  • Origin: Handcrafted in Sri Lanka
  • Price: Rs.10,900 (regular Rs.12,500)

When people buy a punkalasa

Families order one for housewarmings and weddings, businesses place one at office openings as a symbol of prosperity, and many homes keep a brass punkalasa beside the altar year-round. It is traditionally associated with luck, strength and wisdom, which is why it also works as a milestone or retirement gift.

Care

Wipe with a soft dry cloth. Avoid abrasive powders on etched areas — they dull the polish. Occasional brass polish restores shine on the antique finish.
